Frequently Asked Questions

How do I place an Order?

Purchasing is easy. Follow these simple steps:
(Don’t let the quantity of steps fool you.. we were just trying to be thorough!)

  1. Find the audio book you are interested in.
  2. Choose the format you want (CD, MP3 Download, M4B Download, etc)
  3. Select the quantity you want
  4. Click the ‘Add To Cart’ button
  5. You will see a green notice at the top of the page indicating you have added it to your cart. You can either select ‘View Cart’ or just keep shopping.
  6. When you are ready to checkout click the little shopping bag icon at the top of the page (to the left of the magnifying glass)
  7. Review your cart contents and click the ‘Checkout’ button.
  8. Fill out your information (if this is your first purchase) or login (if you are a repeat customer)
  9. Choose your payment method (We use PayPal to process Credit Cards) and click the ‘Place Order’ button.
  10. Thats it! You will see your completed order and receive an email confirming your order!

Do I need an account to place an order?

Yes. Because of the way our system works for tracking orders as well as supplying downloads every customer needs to create an account.

Is Buying On-Line Safe?

Yes. But like anything, its not perfect. We do our best to ensure the highest standards of security so your transactions are safe. We never store any credit card info at our office or on our site.. in fact we never see your CC info except for the last 4 digits! PayPal is the world leader in e-commerce payment processing and they help us with that part of the transaction. Because PayPal takes security so seriously, many of the worlds largest retailers trust them with their online transactions… so we know we are in good company! We also have active software which scans for, blocks and disables any attempt to hack our site 24/7.

What’s The Coupon Codes Policy?

We occasionally send out coupons to our customers or via our Facebook or Twitter pages. If you have one use it! You will be prompted to enter any coupon codes you have while checking out.

How Can I Cancel Or Change My Order

If you have ordered physical CDs you can cancel or change your order up until the time that we take them to the post office to ship. Send us an email as soon as you know you need to change or cancel and we will try our best to assist you and get your order adjusted.

Digital downloads that HAVE NOT BEEN DOWNLOADED can be cancelled within 2 weeks of your order. Simply send us an email stating that you wish to cancel (please include your order number) and we will cancel your order and issue you a refund through your original payment method.

For Digital Downloads there is no need to “change” an order.. simply place a new order. (there are no shipping charges for a digital file!)

How Can I Exchange or Return a Product?

Exchanges are available for any purchase which arrives to you damaged. Just contact us through the Contact Form and we will get a replacement out to you.

Because many of our CDs are pressed at the time you order them to fulfill your specific order we are not able to accept returns. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. But we will do our absolute best to do good on any purchase you make.

Do You Ship Internationally?

Yes! We ship anywhere the US Post Office will ship to. Delivery times can vary greatly depending where you are ordering from.. but we do our best to ship orders everywhere in the world. (We haven’t failed yet!)

What Shipping Methods Are Available?

All shipments are made via ground from the United States Post Office system. If you have circumstances which require use of an alternate shipping method, please send us an email before making your purchase and we will get you a custom quote for your order which factors in the difference in price.

How Long Will It Take To Get My Package?

Domestic and Canadian orders should arrive within 1-2 weeks from the order date. Sometimes sooner, but we cannot guarantee expedited service unless you contact us first and we arrange a custom quote for expedited shipping.

International orders take longer and will arrive anywhere between 2-4 weeks because of ship times and customs. Sometimes sooner but we cannot guarantee expedited service unless you contact us first and we arrange a custom quote for expedited shipping.

How Do I Track My Order?

Click the ‘Track Your Order‘ button on the upper right side of the site and enter your email and order ID.

What Payment Methods Are Accepted?

We accept several different payment methods to meet our customers needs. They are:

– Check (You mail it in and we release the order once it has cleared into our account)

– PayPal

– Credit Card Online (Processed through PayPal.. so select ‘PayPal’ as your method of choice and you can use your CC without signing up for a PayPal account)

– Credit Card Over The Phone (Place your order and then call us during our normal business hours (Shown on our contact page) and we can process your CC over the phone.

Do you sell physical CDs of the audio books?

Yes. We sell physical CDs of our audio books. Many are longer than a single CD so come in a multi-CD set. These will be mailed out to you via the USPS.

In addition you can choose to purchase the CD Set & Instant Download of the same book for just $1 more than the physical CD Set! (choose ‘CD + M4B’ or ‘CD + MP3’ when selecting the format you want.) That is the best of both worlds! Get your physical copy in the mail but enjoy the digital copy right away (as soon as it downloads)

NOTE: The physical CD and Download combination are meant only for the purchaser and are not allowed to be divided. (i.e. You are not allowed to buy the set + instant download and give the download to someone else while keeping the CD Set for yourself.)

What is an MP3 CD? Will is play in a regular CD player?

An MP3 CD is a single physical CD with all the MP3s for the audio book on it. The benefit is that you can store extremely large amounts of audio on a single disc which results in less packaging and manufacturing as well as reduced costs for the media. MP3 CDs are compatible with newer CD players bearing the MP3 logo, newer DVD and Blu-Ray players, as well as all computers.

What formats are your downloads in?

We provide instant audio downloads in four formats:

M4B – Our best format! You get crystal-clear CD quality audio which is bookmarkable (i.e. will start back up where you left off) In addition, each M4B file contains the actual text of the audio book! If you are on a device which supports this file format (newish iPhone, iPad, iPod, and many other devices) you can click the cover image for each chapter and the text will appear. Scroll with your finger to follow along.

M4B (Low Rez) – this file type is for countries with limited or slow internet connections these lower resolution files will transfer faster.. it does include the benefits of the high resolution M4B file… but the audio quality is significantly less

MP3 – These are high resolution MP3 files. MP3 has become a universal standard format which can be handled by almost every digital audio player. This is the file of choice if you want universal compatibility and are not sure if your player will handle M4B files. Unfortunately our MP3s do not support bookmarking or including the text of the audio book.

MP3  (Low Rez) – this file type is for countries with limited or slow internet connections these lower resolution files will transfer faster.. it is identical to the high resolution MP3 file except the audio quality is significantly less

What is an M4B file? What are the benefits? Will it work with my player?

An M4B file is an amazing file type for audio books. Here are some of its features:

– Crystal-clear CD quality audio

– Bookmarkable (i.e. The file will start playing where you left off.. even if you decided to listen to something else!)

– Our M4B files contains the actual text of the audio book! If you are on a device which supports this file format (newish iPhone, iPad, iPod, and many other devices) you can click the cover image for each chapter and the text will appear. Scroll with your finger to follow along.

I purchased downloads of an audio book.. How / Where do I get them?

When you place an order on HearTheWritings you should immediately receive an email that contains a receipt of your transaction. You will notice a line under the title of the product you ordered which is actually a download link for you. Click that link and your download should open a new window/tab in your browser and begin downloading.(Screenshot at bottom of this section)

Alternatively, if you can’t get that to work, follow these simple steps:

1. log into your account on HearTheWritings.com by clicking the “My Account” link at the top of the website: My Account
2.. You will be redirected to your account page where you will see the available downloads listed in orange text under the “AVAILABLE DOWNLOADS” section.
3. Click the orange title that you want to download and it will begin to download to your “Downloads” folder on your computer. This is often set by your browser by default, though you can change it manually.
4. Once downloaded, open your downloads folder and find the file you just downloaded and double click the .ZIP file or right click on it and choose to “extract” the files.
5. That’s it! Your audio book files are all in the folder in your downloads folder.. drag them into your favorite audio player and enjoy.

How do I download onto my iPhone / iPad / iPod?

It is pretty easy to get your audio book onto your iOS devices. The details are below:

DIRECT DOWNLOADING TO YOUR iOS DEVICE?

Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t allow direct downloading into iTunes on any iOS device from anything but their own iTunes store.. It is a limitation they have imposed. The best way to get it on your iOS devices iTunes library is to follow the steps below. Alternatively, if a computer is not available there is a temporary workaround listed after that.

GETTING YOUR MUSIC INTO ITUNES ON AN IOS DEVICE (iPad, iPhone, iPod)

THE CORRECT WAY:
There is only one way to get content purchased from a 3rd party site directly into iTunes and that is to download with your computer and sync your iOS device. Here are the steps:

  • On a computer, visit your account page ( My Account ) and look for the files you wish to download.
  • Click the “Download” button and they will download into your browsers default download folder. (usually called “Downloads” or “My Downloads”)
  • When you go to your downloads folder, look for a file with the name of your audio book. The file will end with .ZIP. Double click on the .ZIP file to extract the file. Once extracted you will see a folder with the same name which has your audio book audio files in it.
  • Drag that folder into iTunes and they will be added to your library (M4Bs will appear under the ‘Audio Book’ Category)
  • Sync your iOS device
  • Voila! Your audio book is now on your computer AND your iOS device! Enjoy!

THE CREATIVE WORKAROUND:
If a computer is not available to you to sync to at the moment there is a workaround which will allow you to listen to your audio book by bypassing iTunes on your iOS device. It requires a little effort, but is quite painless once you get going. Here are the steps:

  • Download iZip from the app store
  • Go to your account page  (My Account)
  • Look for the audio book you want to download and click the “Download” button beside it.
  • It will appear as though nothing is happening.. but in reality the .ZIP file is downloading to your iOS Safari browser. You will see a little spinning progress indicator next to your carrier or Wi-Fi signal indicator. That is how you know it is working.
  • After it finishes downloading, you will see this page:
  • Choose “Open In…” and select the iZip app.
  • Then you will see these pages and you can select the zip file and extract it. iZip has an audio player built in.
  • That should work. (I just did that myself) Sorry it is not more elegant, but Apple wont allow it! I am a die hard user of iOS as well and this has been a challenge. When you have a chance, download them through a computer and sync them with iTunes (you have 3 attempts to download each purchase).. in the meantime.. this will get you listening!

How do I get the audio books into iTunes? (On My Computer)

  • Drag that folder into iTunes and they will be added to your library (M4Bs will appear under the ‘Audio Book’ Category)
  • Voila! Your audio book is now on your computer! Enjoy!

I added the files to iTunes by I can't find them! Help?

Most times this will be because our audio books end up in the ‘Audio Books’ category automatically (rather than the standard ‘Music’ category) Click in the upper left side of iTunes where it says ‘Music’ and scroll down to ‘Audio Books’. There it is!

Alternatively, if that didn’t solve your problem the culprit might be that you have not yet manually added your audio book files to iTunes. (or did so unsuccessfully) The audio files downloaded to your downloads folder and you need to drag the files over to iTunes. I clicked the download link from my purchase and it plays in my browser.. how do I download it?

Some browsers are set to automatically play MP3 or M4B files within the browser. To download the file to your computer instead of playing it in your browser, simply right click on the download link from your purchase and choose “Download Linked File” or “Download File”. Thats it.. now it will download to your computer.

How can I reset my password to access my account?

1. Click this link: https://hearthewritings.com/my-account/lost-password/
2. Enter your email address and click “Reset Password”
3. A password reset email will arrive to your email account shortly.
4. When you receive the email click the link in the email that says “Click Here To Reset Your Password”. That will open a window in your web browser where you will choose a new password.
5. Click submit… Voila! New password for your account!

How can I read the text while I listen to the audio book?

Our M4B file format contains the text of the audio book built right in! If you click on the cover of the audio book as you listen on a device which supports the function (most iOS devices as well as many others) the text will appear and you can read along simply scrolling with your fingers.

Can I make copies of the audio book I purchased and give them to our community / my friends?

Unfortunately not. Many many hours… and a massive amount of resources went into preparing each of the audio books on this site. If you copy them and give them to others, not only is it technically illegal and debatably unethical, but it definitely makes our ability to sustain our efforts in creating audio books significantly more challenging. We feel this is a mission for us and we want to continue providing this service to the community. Every dollar we get goes into covering the costs of production.

We prefer that you share the availability with your community but that you direct them to our website. Many of the audio books of the messages are free to download. All we ask on our end is that they create their own accounts. This helps us let the community know when new titles are available and also ensure that everyone is experiencing the same high quality experience that you are.

NOTE: If your community needs multiple copies, send us an email via our contact page and we will work with you to make it financially possible to get the audio book to all your community members!
